Tips For Staying Productive

Tips For Staying Productive

Do you often find yourself daydreaming out of the window during work hours? Or maybe you put off the cleaning for hours on end with a promise to "start it in a minute." With the glorious weather outside it is so easy to find yourself veering off into other tangents instead of remaining focused on your task. To help keep your productivity in check, we have come up with 10 of our favourite ways to stay focused.

1. Keep your home office out of sight from your bedroom.

Whether you have work from home job or some job applications to fill in at home, make sure to stay away from your bed. The temptation to crawl back under the covers is too high so set yourself up at your dining room table or even at a desk to optimise your output.

2. Set goals not a goal and work accordingly.

Each morning write yourself a little task sheet of jobs you want to achieve today. Maybe it's mowing the lawn, changed all of the bedsheets or some tasks you want to get done in your job. Set yourself multiple little goals and ensure you tick them all off as you go.

3. Let everybody at home know you will be working between so and so time.

This is so important for anyone who works from home. This way you can stay away from all of the distractions and remind others that even though you are present, you are still busy. This goes for all of the job seekers and students revising too - make sure you make everyone aware that you are occupied.

4. Forget about what others are doing, you do it your way.

Comparing ourselves to others will never end well. You do things the way you know how. This is great advice for anyone who feels like they are judged because of their work ethic. If you know you are working to best your potential, it doesn't matter how you got there. You do you.

5. Shut the room door to block distraction.

Make sure to isolate yourself away from the noise. Avoid setting yourself up in a room with a TV or even near the front window. You may find yourself getting easily distracted and will lessen your productivity.

6. De-clutter your workspace.

Clean your desk or table of unwanted items and ensure that you only have the necessary equipment around you. This way you will find yourself staying on task throughout the day rather than getting side-tracked with that really interesting book you haven't read yet...

7. Keep snacks and water close by.

Whether it's in the office, at home or in school make sure you always have water as a bare essential while working. We can find ourselves getting hungry a.k.a bored whilst trying to retain focus and can go off in search of unhealthy snacks as a way to distract ourselves. Have some blueberries to snack on and some water to stay hydrated close to hand.

8. Utilize and divide your time for each task in hand.

Sometimes long lists of tasks can be daunting. Break your goals for the day or the week even into small achievable targets that give you small feelings of satisfaction as you tick them off. This will prevent you from feeling bogged down by an overwhelming amount of work.

9. Take a break.

This is particularly important if you work on a computer for long hours each day. Take a break to go and make a drink or even to refresh your brain. You will stay focused, excited and determined to complete each task as well as having a huge sense of satisfaction once it's complete.

10. Spend time with your loved ones and refresh your mind.

The most important tip of all. Sid always says "the most important things in life aren't things" and this is a great one to remember for anyone who finds themselves overworked and tired. Your productivity will increase, your drive will heighten and your passion for work will be renewed if you allow yourself time with your family, time to relax and clear your mind.
