Where to Find Inspiration

Where to Find Inspiration

Whether you are a leader or part of a team, most people spend a great deal of time thinking about how they can inspire themselves and those around them. Having the ability to lift people’s spirit and motivation is an essential skill, one that stays with you throughout life.

But, how much attention do we place on finding those things that truly inspire us – for us? In order to inspire others, we must first find what motivates us so that we can activate our own creativity, enthusiasm, and effort.

Inspiration is not a natural feeling we can summon whenever we need it. Inspiration is something we have to look for, strive for and conjure in others and we know this can be difficult. We have compiled a list of our top ways to find inspiration if you are feeling completely lost or maybe just a little off track:

Watch TED videos
TED talks brand themselves as ideas worth spreading, from expert speakers on education, business, science, tech, and creativity. If you find yourself lost or lacking inspiration, TED could be a really great place to start thinking about new ideas on complex topics. You can literally find a TED talk on any subject – stop by there and have a listen, you never know what may inspire you.

Try something you’ve always you can’t do but want to try
Ever have that burning desire to take up an instrument? Or learn a new skill? Now is your chance to do it! In the early stages of discovering our hidden talents is when inspiration flies free. It is during this time that you will discover new passions and excitement for life again. Whatever it is you decide to take up, make sure you give it your best shot.

Ask everyone you see today what they’re grateful for
Being grateful puts things into perspective, things we may have otherwise overlooked throughout our busy lives become important and ground us. Asking people what they are grateful can be super inspiring for anyone who has found themselves stuck in a rut with a lack of inspiration. You will learn things about other’s lives that will inevitably help you see your own life clearer.

Read something new
Don’t limit yourself to the same old stuff. Get yourself down to the library and try out some new reading material. You may find that sticking to the same books can force you into the same bubble and same routine day in day out. Try a new author, a new genre or even a new literary form and find yourself reinvigorated with inspiration.

Read blogs from other writers in topics that you are interested in
We really recommend trying to find people who have similar interests/ ideas as yourself when looking for inspiration. You will find you are not only reading more but discovering new ways of thinking. We all have the same problems in life but come at them from all sorts of angles. Hearing others thoughts can really help you find some inspiration that will kickstart your own creative process.

Listen to music that moves you
Music is a seriously powerful tool and can help you with all sorts of situations. Have you ever stood back and listened to music in those great films? What about Lord of The Rings or Star Wars? You may find that it is actually those amazing scores that give us those inevitable goosebumps, not the movie itself! Find some music that helps you be the best you whenever you listen to it.

Live your values
Values are our moral compass. Everything we do and every decision we make is based on our values. When you find yourself lost and lacking direction think about what it is that drives you every single day. Maybe it’s your family, maybe it’s integrity – whatever it is, harness these values because these are your superpower, your motivator. Live for them and find that once lost inspiration.

Change your mindset
The word mindset gets thrown around a lot these days, but what does it mean? Mindset literally refers to the way we think or the way our brains work. Mindset is not static, you can change it, alter and perfect it at any point in life. The time of “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” is long gone and in its place is hope for a whole reboot of the way we think and the way we do. Change the way you think (if only marginally) and find a new purpose.

Don’t give up on yourself
A number one tip for when you lose inspiration is to be kind to yourself. The worst thing you can do during this time is beat yourself up. Even the most successful and talented people have to find inspiration – stay true to who you are and what makes you feel passionate, you will find your way. Put your laptop, phone, and TV aside and allow yourself the chance to write a diary entry, to soak up some good weather or imagine all of those solutions you once thought were impossible.

No matter which of these methods works for you, you will find inspiration again. Do not sit back and accept that you have lost your spark, go out there and look for what makes you passionate again. We are all amazing people and we have greatness inside of us, so no matter how unmotivated or lost you may seem, allow yourself the chance to keep moving forward and improving ourselves in ways we may have never thought possible.
